Frequently Asked Questions
First-Timer Details:
How do I register for classes/sessions?
All registrations are processed through MindBody (available online or via their free app). To book a class or session, click here.
What should I wear to my class/private session?
Though clothing choice is entirely personal, form-fitting outfits allow for the trainer to easily see the body in space and provide descriptive feedback as to alignment, posture, etc. We encourage tighter clothing to ensure we can give the most you-specific instruction.
Should I bring anything with me?
If attending a personal training session and/or strength/cardio-focused class (Full Body Sculpt, Bootycamp, Step & Strength, TRX Mix, LaBlast), please bring clean indoor sneakers. We take pride in a clean studio for all clients, so any outdoor footwear is prohibited beyond our entryway. Boots/wet footwear may be left in the foyer upon entry, on a designated shoe tray.
For any Pilates sessions/classes and/or barre/yoga-focused classes (Barre Burn, Barre Box, PiYo, Classical Mat Pilates, Teasers & Tabata), please bring grippy socks for your feet. Any sock with tread will work - we also have plenty of socks available for purchase in-studio!
Will I need to bring my own mat for classes?
Making Moves provides all equipment needed for every class and/or session. No mats necessary, unless you would prefer to use your own!
Where should I park?
All Making Moves Fitness & Dance clients must park in the lot directly BEHIND the entrance ramp to 3 Kirkland Ave, adjacent to the Clinton Agway. Parking spots at the front of the building are reserved for NBT Bank members and employees - all vehicles parked in this area are subject to towing at the owner's expense. You may utilize the front parking spaces before 8am and after 5pm on weekdays, on Saturdays after 12pm, and at anytime on Sundays.
Does Making Moves have changing rooms and/or storage areas?
Making Moves shares a single-person restroom with a neighboring office space - clients are encouraged to arrive at the studio in workout attire. In the event this is not possible, the restroom may be used for quick changes. As we share with another tenant, please keep restroom usage to a minimum for changing purposes. There is a private room of the studio (designated for Pilates privates) which may be used if necessary.
Cubbies are provided in the studio - all personal items may be placed here (purse, wallet, keys, jacket etc). As a means of keeping utmost focus during classes/sessions, we ask that cell phones be kept in a cubby (but extenuating circumstances are always understood).
If I am running behind, how should I handle a late arrival to the studio?
Classes will begin promptly at the started time listed on the studio schedule. Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes late to any given class - we utilize the first minutes for a full-body warmup, which is necessary to keep the body safe. Arriving late does not allow for ample warmup and could lead to injury. If you are slated to arrive late by 10 minutes or more, please "late cancel" your appointment in MindBody and contact Julia immediately to notify her of your absence. Of course, extenuating circumstances will be taken into account, but to maintain the general flow of classes (and to be courteous to fellow movers) punctuality is key. Please review our "late cancellation" policy below for more details.
If running late for a private session, Julia will meet with you upon your arrival. Your block of time (45-60 minutes), is yours. Hence, a late arrival will yield a shorter session, as Julia is unable to extend services beyond the scheduled session end time. Making Moves is a one-person operation, and all classes/sessions are typically booked back-to-back, leaving little to no wiggle room.
What if I encounter an emergency and cannot make it to my class/session?
Life happens, and we will work to be as amenable as possible - in the event of illness or other emergency, please contact Julia as soon as possible. For a private session, a makeup will be scheduled. For a class, you will be credited your enrollment back for a future class. We just ask that you do not rely on our emergency policy for all late cancellations. These cancellations will be honored but not as regular occurrences.
Are all group fitness classes open to new/beginner movers? Are they safe?
Our group classes are designed for movers of varying levels - user-friendly enough for those without much experience but also providing room for advancements for those further along in their movement practice. This said, however, if you have any pre-existing injuries/concerns, please contact Julia prior to enrolling in a class. Some formats are a bit more robust than others and may not be as suitable for some bodies. All in all, however, classes are intended for every person no matter their expertise, and Julia works diligently to watch everyone closely to ensure proper form, alignment, and safety. This is a HUGE perk of our small group classes, capped at a maximum of 8 participants!
If I have movement restrictions, how do I best communicate these to the instructor?
When signing up for your first class/session, you will be provided a Client Intake Form to complete which outlines questions relative to injuries, goals, and your current fitness routine. This is a perfect opportunity to communicate any issues/concerns you may have at the start of your journey with Making Moves. If you feel if best to speak with Julia directly, contact her via email at julia@makingmovesfitnessanddance.com. Julia is always available prior to class/session start time to check in and discuss the body and/or life events/updates. In short, please do communicate anything that you're feeling, as it all impacts your physical being (even if we don't realize it)!
Are walk-ins permitted for classes?
We love our current location, but it is the definition of boutique fitness - meaning that spots are limited. With a capped maximum of between 5-8 participants per format, walk-ins are discouraged solely because of our inability to promise a spot to those who do not register. If you have missed the cutoff for booking a class (see below), reach out to Julia directly to see if there is space available.
What is the cutoff time for booking a class?
You may book a class up to 30 minutes prior to its start time, at which point registration closes via MindBody. If you have missed the cutoff for booking a class (see below), reach out to Julia directly to see if there is space available. Please remember, Making Moves is run by one person, so prompt responses are not always assured.
How does the waitlist work?
When a class is filled to capacity, clients will have the choice to join the waitlist. If an enrolled client late cancels within the 2-hour window prior to class start time, a waitlisted member will automatically be moved from the list and registered for the class. In the event no cancellations occur, the instructor reserves the ability to add a waitlisted member to the class roster if space allows, per the instructor's discretion. For all formats, the waitlist is capped at 2 individuals. If you do not hear from Making Moves prior to one hour before class start time, it is assumed that you have not been moved from the waitlist. As such, your class purchase will be credited back to your account for a future class.
How large are group fitness classes?
All group fitness classes are capped at a maximum of 8 participants. Depending on the format, class sizes range from 5-8 movers. You will always get personalized feedback - that is a promise and staple of our studio!

Extenuating circumstances (i.e. severe illness, family emergency) will be considered on a case-by-case basis, which may yield a fee of HALF the value of your scheduled session. Repeat cancellations with less than 12 hours’ notice will necessitate a restructuring of designated meeting time(s) to avoid further issues.

Studio snow days will occur if road conditions are deemed unsafe and/or if a severe snow advisory is declared by local meteorological sources. The safety of our clients is paramount and will be considered in the forefront.
Clients will be contacted via email no later than 2 hours prior to the start of class time. Cancellations will also be posted on our social media pages (Instagram, Facebook) as soon as a call has been made. You will be credited for any previously purchased class(es)/class pass(es), to be applied to a future class.
Services:
How do I get started on a personal training routine?
Personal training private sessions are available for booking via MindBody (under the "Appointments" tab - click here to be redirected). Alternatively, you may contact Julia directly to discuss days/times at which you will regularly meet on a weekly basis. Prior to your first session, you will connect with Julia for a brief consultation, during which you will discuss details including, but not limited to: current exercise regimen, current/previous experience with fitness, goals, any injuries and/or health concerns, and more.
The complimentary consultation can also be booked via MindBody (or by clicking here) and can be completed either in-studio or virtually. This time is vital for kickstarting your fitness journey on the right foot, as it provides Julia with insights to best support your growth during your time together. From there, a regular schedule will be decided upon per studio availability.
Can I train one-on-one with Making Moves virtually?
Absolutely! Making Moves provides services both near and far - personal training and Pilates privates may be completed virtually through Zoom or Google Meet. If interested in this service, please reach out to Julia directly to discuss the process at julia@makingmovesfitnessanddance.com.
Additionally, Making Moves is in the production stages of a full online workout program portal including both pre-recorded and pre-written at-home workouts for anyone to pursue (see Body By You). More information to come soon!
Are there different class levels?
As of January 1st, 2025, the only class format delineated by level is Classical Mat Pilates. This works to ensure that clients of all abilities and backgrounds are getting the most out of their practice, while also keeping less-experienced bodies safe. All other group fitness formats are open to any level and can be tailored to the body as needed (sprinkling in modifications or advancements, where appropriate). See Are all group fitness classes open to new/beginner movers? Are they safe? above for further details.
Can I book more than one class in a day?
Clients are entitled to book as many classes as they choose - this is particularly an advantage for those with a Monthly Unlimited Class Pass. This said, if a client is routinely booking 2 or more classes per day, this may disallow other participants from signing up for classes (due to our studio's limited capacity). In this case, the client may be asked to pare down enrollment to allow for others to practice. Typically, however, a double booking on a few days weekly is not cause for concern.
What types of package rates does Making Moves offer?
Classes:
We offer clients THREE different package options for all small group classes: 5-class, 8-class, Monthly Unlimited Class Pass.
Private Sessions:
Personal training privates must be purchased by the session. One-time purchases packages are offered for Pilates privates, including:
Pilates 101: Introduction to Classical Pilates - intended for beginner practitioners
Powerhouse Practice - intended for advanced beginner, intermediate and/or advanced practitioners new to the studio
Visit the Pricing & Promotions tabs above tab to learn more.
How long are class packages good for?
All class & Pilates packages must be redeemed within 60 days of purchase.
Does Making Moves offer refunds for services?
In the event of class/session cancellations (for those which have already been purchased), Making Moves will credit the client's account for the same value as the purchase. Class credits may be used toward any class, or the purchase value may be put toward a private session of the client's choosing. Making Moves will only process refunds for special classes/workshops that do not run due to low enrollment, illness, etc (including pop-up classes). Any other form of cancellation will yield an account credit.
